Telecom department issued a notification to the telecom company to connect the mobile number to the subscriber’s aadhar card. The companies are instructed to complete this process in the next one year.
Key points of this Central Government Yojna
After 6 Feb’ 2018, the users who do not have their aadhaar card linked to their mobile numbers can have their services terminated.
All telecom companies will re-verify their current customers (prepaid and postpaid) using E-KYC processor.
The Supreme Court ordered the telecom companies to inform their users through messages and their websites.
Sim Card Verification
Telecom companies will verify their users by sending SMS to their mobile number to confirm its existence and then start the process of validation using E-KYC processor.
At the end of this year, it will not be possible to recharge the prepaid phone without using ID proof.
The cellular operators association said that the whole process would cost about 1000 crores.
Bulk connections cannot be verified through a single E-KYC. The operator will have to follow a separate E-KYC process for issuing additional mobile connections.
Though the process is tiresome and time taking, the intentions behind this plan are clear and precise.
The government is making aadhar card mandatory for new mobile phone number and existing mobile phone numbers to ensure fair use of these connections and if employed for any criminal activity or illegally, can be easily detected and identified.
